Year of the Rabbit | Art and Colour Inspiration

So its the Year of the Rabbit this year, and in celebration of the lunar new year,

over at the Inspired Scrapper,

there is a Colour and Art Inspiration Challenge.

I was totally inspired by the colours and the blossoms on the branch.  I decided to give it a more valentine spin by using hearts as the blossoms.   (The girls have been busy making their valentines for the past few days, so I've got that holiday on my mind :))

This is a 5X7 canvas, that now on the wall near my computer.

Bright Colours Chase Away the Grey

I love a great colour challenge!  It inspires me to go through my stash and find papers and embellishments that work.  Instead of reaching for my newest papers or my favourite companies, I find that I end up using a mix of papers and in the end it feels great to use the supplies I have at hand.

This week over at the Inspired Scrapper we have this great photo as inspiration.   I love how bold the colours are and seriously how beautiful is that arrangement.   The photo seems to be the perfect cure for a rainy grey day.

Here is my take on the colour challenge.  I stuck with the main colours in the inspiration photo, dark brown, fushia, red and green.  Since the colours are so bold, I kept the embellishments to a minimum and just added some inking and a few buttons.

Here is a quick thank-you card.  I needed a card on behalf of the preschool
so I thought a pierced old fashioned school house fit the bill :)
One of the other papers in the collection had a little picture of an school house.  I used that
to cut out a larger version, and then added some glitter and a thank-you heart.

Fall in Pixie Hollow

I love fall,  I love the crisp air, the cooler weather which is perfect cuddle in a blanket weather, and the colours of the changing leaves.

Technically since it is still summer here, I don't have too many fall stories to tell yet :)  So for this fall challenge over at Inspired Scrapper, I chose some pics from Pixie Hollow in Disneyland.  Last year, it was transformed into a Fall Revelry to match the theme of the movie Tinkerbell and the Lost Treasure.  We loved to see the coloured leaves, the fall banners, the compass and the fall scepter from the movie.  It was a surprise to also meet Terrence, Tinkerbell's friend.

Originally this layout had a very neutral kraft background with the one square piece of pp and the butterflies as the only pop of colour.  However my attempt to add some sparkle and pixie dust to the layout was not very successful.  So I ended up changing the background totally, and went from a neutral to bright fall colours.  Lesson learned that pixie dust is best left to fairies ;)

I can't believe my baby is three.  She has turned into little miss independent.
She started preschool this week and loves it!  I was a bit worried about how she would react to being left with the teacher, but she was totally fine!  Apparently she also talks up a storm with the teacher, I might have get the teacher some Tylenol to help ease her headaches at the end of the day :) lol

Summer Senses at The Inspired Scrapper

This week over at The Inspired Scrapper we are playing with the theme of "The Five Senses of Summer".  Over here at our house the month of August has been filled with new sounds of music.  The girls have started to take music lessons and so we (and since the windows are open, the neighbours too) have been privvy to many beginning sounds and songs.  With one taking piano and the other choosing the violin, we are ready for a duet!

The ribbon is just wrapped around the flowers and over and under the butterfly wings. I added a few glue dots to keep it in place.  The rosettes were made using some scraps of music patterned paper.

Inspired Scrapper Friday Challenge

Its Friday and that means another challenge at Inspired Scrapper.  This week we were challenged to create a layout using a sketch.   (July 2009 PageMaps Sketch)

This is the sketch.  I altered the sketch a bit to suit my pics.  I took the top row of photos and moved them down beside the main photo, and then the title and journalling moved to right a bit.   Here is my take on the sketch.  Pics of some bears we saw just outside of Whistler in the Callaghan Valley (site of the Olympic Ski Jumping, Biathalon and Cross Country Skiing)

Art Inspiration

Its Friday and that means its time for a new challenge at The Inspired Scrapper :)
This week we are being challenged to find inspiration in this piece of art. (Artist's Etsy ID is 'ccvalenzo')

I was inspired by the heart image and the shell spiral in the background. Together those two elements helped me create a layout.

I used two different Martha Stewart heart punches and arranged them in a spiral pattern like in the inspiration art piece. I used lots of scraps for the pp. most are from Basic Grey, but there are many others in there as well.

Hope the art piece inspires you to be creative this week!
